15 09 2006

th2th2Now here’s some fun! The AdClub of Toronto is holding it’s second Texas Hold’Em night. The last one was a blast with the winner picking up a grand prize trip to Vegas to play in some deeper water.

Tickets are $40 a head which includes some food, a drink and your chips to get you started. Proceeds go towards NABS. Last time the winner at each table received a prize and the excitement in the room was great as the winners of each table eventually migrated to the final table for the big showdown.

If you’ve watched any of this card phenomenon on TV you’ll know the kind of energy it creates. It’s definitely worth checking out! Tickets go on sale soon.

Medical Writer, Pharmaceutical Writer, Healthcare Writer needed

15 09 2006

I’ve now got 2 searches going for medical writers! Seems these folks are the rarest of rare. I’ve found a few in the past and been able to place them but I’ve now got to repeat the magic. If anyone reading this has a friend, colleague or contact who has performed the act of copywriting for companies or agencies in this line of work shoot a quick note to Lance in Toronto.

Recruiter, Headhunter, Executive Search, Talent Acqusition Specialist

13 09 2006

It wouldn’t be the first time we heard “What’s in a name?”

In Recruiting circles their are all sorts of distinctions between a “recruiter” a “headhunter” an “Executive Search Consultant” and a number of other related terms in the industry. I find clients and hiring managers don’t always know the differences and part of my role with a new client is to ascertain what their expectations are. Once this is nailed down I can tell if they are indeed looking for a recruiting shop or an executive search or even just a resume service.

Just as in any industry, a better client is the one who knows more about the product and service offering so spending a bit of time with the client to clarify this is valuable for both parties.

Getting a handle on how many resumes they expect to see, what time frame they are working within, whether they are onboard for an exclusive search, and many other variables need to be discussed also. Some recruiting firms don’t ask these questions — They get a job order for a certain person with a group of skills and go hunting before they’ve asked the right questions.

Video Game Artists, Toronto - 3D, Studio Max, etc

12 09 2006

Toronto’s video and web-based gaming community is still growing and several companies are looking to hire people with 3D modelling skills, animation, storyboarding, traditional and digital rendering talent (scenic and character).

Anyone looking for this type of work for contract or fulltime should drop me an email with a resume at my hotmail box (LanceLeFort[AT]hotmail.com).

Java Programmer Needed

12 09 2006

Another recruiter buddy of mine with an Ottawa-based client is looking to hire a top notch Java Programmer/Developer. As a high chunk of Ottawa’s techies are ex-Nortel and heavy on telco they are finding the skills sets and experience very narrow. So they asked him (and he asked me) to have a look in Toronto and across other major centers in Ontario for a Java dude or dudette that may move to Ottawa to work in a growing software development company.

Copywriter needed - Pharmaceutical Writer

11 09 2006

One of my clients is looking for one of the most elusive types of writers available. The rarely sighted Pharmaceutical copywriter who wants to work fulltime for the same client. Usually this breed of writer wants freelance and freedom to come and go as they choose but my client wants to hire one fulltime. It will be a tough search but no one comes to me when the task is easy.

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of placing a few in my past so I’ll keep digging until I find the right person for the job and the client.
